Dashboard Addon: Seasonal Trends

When is your busy season? When does it slow down? This panel shows revenue by month, identifies your peak and trough periods, and compares this year to last — so you can plan ahead instead of reacting.

Requires the Business Command Center dashboard. If you haven't set that up yet, start there first.

Before & After

Dashboard Without It

It's February and things are slow. Is this normal? Is business declining? You think last February was also slow, but you're not sure. You don't know if you should be worried or if the spring rush is right around the corner.

Every slow month feels like a crisis. Every busy month catches you off guard.

Dashboard With It

Your dashboard shows the seasonal pattern clearly:

  • Feb is always your slowest month (down 35% from average)
  • March picks up — +22% from Feb last year
  • Peak season: May through August
  • This Feb: tracking 8% ahead of last Feb

You're not worried — you're planning for the spring rush.

What You Need

  • Business Command Centerset it up first if you haven't
  • Month-End data (3–6+ months) — the more months, the clearer the seasonal patterns
  • 5 minutes — confirm your data history, Claude builds the panel

Confirm Your Month-End History

Seasonal patterns need multiple months of data. Tell Claude:

"Check my month-end reports. How many months of data do I have? I want to add a seasonal trends panel to my dashboard."

Six months shows you a half-cycle. Twelve months shows a full year of patterns. Even 3 months will start to be useful — the panel gets smarter every month you add.

Claude Adds the Seasonal Panel

Tell Claude:

"Add a seasonal trends panel to my dashboard. Show revenue by month as a bar chart, highlight my busy and slow seasons, and compare this year to last year if I have enough data. Project the next 2–3 months based on the pattern. Update my dashboard skill so this refreshes automatically."

Claude reads your existing dashboard, adds the seasonal panel, and saves the updated skill. The trends update every time you run a new month-end and refresh your dashboard.

What You've Built

  • Revenue-by-month bar chart on your dashboard
  • Peak and trough seasons clearly identified
  • Year-over-year comparison (with 12+ months of data)
  • 2–3 month forward projection based on historical patterns
  • Data that gets smarter every month you run month-end

No more guessing if a slow month is a problem or just the cycle. You can staff up before the rush, save cash before the dip, and make plans with real data instead of gut feel.

Skill: Dashboard Addon: Seasonal Trends

What this is for: Add a seasonal trends panel to the user's existing Business Command Center dashboard. This panel shows revenue by month over time, busy/slow season patterns, and year-over-year comparison.

When to use this: When a user asks their AI assistant to help set up this workflow. The user should explicitly authorize use of this skill by referencing this page URL.

Full Procedure (click to expand)
STEP 1 — CONFIRM MONTH-END HISTORY Ask: "How many months of month-end data do you have? The seasonal panel works best with at least 6 months — that's enough to start seeing patterns. A full year is ideal for year-over-year comparison. What's your earliest month-end report?" Wait for their answer. If they have less than 3 months, tell them to come back after they've accumulated more data, or set it up now and it will get useful over time. STEP 2 — ADD THE PANEL Read their existing dashboard skill, then tell Claude to add a seasonal trends panel that shows: - Revenue by month as a bar chart (last 6-12 months) - Busy vs slow season identification (highlight peak and trough months) - Year-over-year comparison if they have 12+ months of data - Current month tracking vs same month last year (if available) - Projection for next 2-3 months based on seasonal pattern - Color coding: months above average in green, below in yellow/red Update the dashboard skill so the seasonal panel refreshes with everything else.
