What I've built
Named clients on request. Not on a web page.
A roofing contractor was measuring every roof by hand
Every quote started with someone climbing up, measuring, coming down, and typing it into a spreadsheet — before anyone knew whether the job was even worth bidding.
I built the measurement out of the process. The numbers come off the roof without anyone standing on it, and the quote starts from a number instead of an afternoon.
He didn't ask for that. He asked about something else entirely. Finding it was the job. The measurement was never the thing he called about. It surfaced because I spent the first half hour asking about his week instead of his software. That is the actual service: the looking. The building is what happens afterward.
A national association's conference ran on a spreadsheet and a prayer
Thirty-nine sessions across three days. Every attendee has to pick their way through it without booking two things at once — then claim continuing-education credit for what they actually attended.
I built the system that does it. It knows which sessions overlap, down to the minute, so someone can take two half-hour sessions back to back but can't book into two rooms at once. It saves your place if you close the tab. The credit follows automatically.
The hard part was not the booking. It was that the sessions are not the same length — some run twenty-five minutes, some run fifty — so one session per time slot is the wrong rule. It would have stopped a nurse from taking two short sessions back to back, which is exactly what she is entitled to do. The system compares actual start and end times instead.
What I'm working on now
One-of-a-kind inventory for an online gem dealer. Order fulfilment, notifications, and the problem nobody thinks about until it bites: when every item is unique, an order has to freeze the listing at the moment of purchase — or the record of what was sold quietly changes underneath you.
